Our Week in Jordan

Riding in Petra :)

We just spent the week in Jordan and we had a blast! The people of Jordan are kind, much of the land is beautiful and green, and it is a country rich in history. Our trip was jam-packed, filled with many fun memories and spiritual times. Highlights of the week included:

1. Seeing Petra (the site of the last scene of the Indiana Jones and the last Crusade...and pictured above). It was sooo beautiful. Picture the rocks of Southern Utah scattered with massive burial tombs that look like palaces. Petra is the site an ancient Nabatean city. It was fun to see the remains of a civilization we had just studied in our Ancient Near East class.

2. Singing hymns at the Jordan River, the site of Jesus Christ's baptism. I loved imagining He and John the Baptist walking together, approaching the river, and entering the water.

3. Spending time in downtown Amman. We were greeted at our first hotel with free juice that mirrored Sunny Delight, white horses waiting to be ridden, and a piccolo player in typical Jordanian garb. LOL. The next morning we went inside the King Abdulah Mosque and learned about Islam, sitting criss-cross applesauce and barefoot, covered in robes and scarves for modesty and respect. We explored cool ruins from when the Romans ruled. And yes, you can bet we filmed a music video singing "I Won't Say I'm in Love" at the Temple of Hercules. That night we bumped into the entire Jordanian SWAT team as we wandered the night time streets (hahaha).

4. JERASH. Google it. So cool. It's the best preserved Greco-Roman city still existing. I could have spent all day there. Julius Caesar was born in Jerash.

5. KFC for lunch on Thursday!!! Our tour guide told us it was Kentucky Fried Camel :) We then proceeded to belt Top 40 hits on the entire bus ride home. Love me some J. Biebs, Chris Brown, and Jason Derulo.

Our time in Jordan was so awesome!! This blog only shows bits and pieces of the trip; I wish I had time to capture more of the details. Every day I feel glad to be having this opportunity! :)
